One reason your blog may need a refresh is that either you haven't gotten to post much content to it recently. The great thing is that to refresh your blog, all you may need to do is revisit an old post or two that haven't really performed that well. But wait, if they haven't done well, then why should you look to them?
Every piece of content has the potential to do some good for people. But you may have posts that only get a few stray views every month due to the fact that no one is finding them. Sometimes, it's as simple as resharing them on social media to get them attention. Since they haven't been getting views, they will be like brand new content to many people.
But before you do, you may want to find ways to update those older posts. You don't necessarily have to change the date on them, as this can be both good and bad for SEO. However, if you do need to update them considerably to make them relevant, at least putting a note that you updated the article at such and such a date does make a difference to readers. It shows that you made the effort to go back and update something.
Whether you change the post date or not, you want to make sure that you have good keyword phrases targeted for each post. They don't have to be plastered all over the article, of course. Just keep them in mind while you're proofing the posts. Chances are, though, outside of some facts that may need updating, you probably have just the content you need to get people interested in your blog again!

Updating the Theme, Design, Layout, or Brand of Your Blog Can Work Wonders
Sometimes, all your blog needs is a makeover. You may want to try a new theme, if you're on a platform like Wordpress or Weebly, that doesn't require you to do massive content shifts. A new design or layout within your existing theme may also be a great improvement. You want your audience's eyes to be directed to things you want them to click on, after all, such as ads and calls to action.
Other times, you may want to refresh your blog's entire brand. This could, at times, even involve renaming the blog entirely, especially if it's a company blog whose brand is separate from the blog itself. Companies actually do this fairly often, especially with how easy it is within many blogging platforms to create automatic redirects if you change the blog's name if it's hosted on an existing domain that isn't changing.
But rebranding doesn't always mean a new name, either. It could be a new logo, or blog header, or shift in content strategy. The strategy can be the most effective way to refresh your blog. Find what your audience reacts to and engages with the most and focus on that.
