Submission Guidelines

We embrace varied techniques and believe everyone has something unique to share. Whenever you have a post you'd like to share, use our easy Guest Submission Template after reading the guidelines below. If you are a regular blogger with Approved Blogger status, do not use the Guest Submission Template to submit your posts. You will be granted access to the areas you are approved to write for.

Posts must adhere to the entirety of these submission guidelines. No exceptions.

All written content must be 100% created by you.

By providing us with your content, you are granting Write W.A.V.E. Media permission to display it on sites in our network, as well as our partner network. You are also agreeing that you are the owner and creator of said content and have the proper rights/license to grant us the right to display said content.

This right you grant us to display said content does not transfer ownership to us, but does grant us a display license to place said content on one or more sites in our network, as permitted by you, the owner of said content by going through with the submission process. You still remain the copyright holder and deem the right to display your content wherever you deem applicable. We may, at any time, display your content on any properties involved with Write W.A.V.E. Media, which includes our network of sites and our partner network of sites. However, we will not sell, distribute, or license your content to third parties. The display rights you grant us extend only to the venues mentioned above, which include this website, as well as those listed on the page entitled Our Sites.

We are in the process of converting all of our properties to follow the Yahoo! Style Guide. The ability to implement the Yahoo! Style Guide into your unique writing style is strongly preferred. We do edit submissions. However, writers who can produce ready-to-publish material will gain the highest preference. If you are used to AP style, this handy comparison chart can point out some of the more notable differences between the two.

Note that we may or may not publish your submitted content and we may remove it at any time after publication at our sole discretion. We strictly adhere to copyright laws, including (but not limited to) the DMCA and will not tolerate copyright violations or plagiarism. All content is scanned for these violations and we will act as necessary if anything questionable is detected.

Uploading Content:

Go to Guest Submissions and follow the instructions if you would like to submit a guest blog for consideration. If you are a blogger approved through our Blogger Application process, refer to the instructions given to you at signup. If you are confused, please use our Contact Us form to ask questions.

Photo Permissions:
Only photos taken personally by you (and that you still hold the rights to) or obtained properly from one of the below sources can be displayed with your submissions.

Photos Taken by You: Photos that you have taken yourself and still own the rights to may be used, provided you credit yourself as the photographer.

Public Domain: Photos in the public domain are permitted to use, as long as the photo links back to the source it was obtained from to show proof of being in the public domain. Photos also must credit the photographer and source.

Flickr.com: Photos from Flickr.com that are licensed for commercial use may be used with your text submissions, provided they do not require the same license to be displayed with them. You must credit the photographer and source.

Example of properly crediting a photo from Flickr -- Photo: Lyn Lomasi via Flickr.com

Example of properly crediting a photo you have taken yourself and have the rights to -- Photo: (c) Your Name

Example of improperly crediting a photo -- Photo: Google Images (Google Images is not a source, but a tool)

In addition to these guidelines, photos must also adhere to U.S. copyright laws.

Byline Tips

The byline should include your name and designation and needs to be visible on all posts. Your name should link back to where readers can find more of your work - such as your Yahoo! Contributor Network profile or your own website. Do not use designations which you are not authorized to use or that do not rightfully apply to you.

Example Bylines

by Lyn Lomasi, LifeSuccessfully Staff
by Lyn Lomasi, Expert Parenting Writer
by Lyn Lomasi, Community Advocate at Yahoo! Contributor Network

Word Count and Other Post Details

Posts should be at least 200 words and can be a unique post by you, a blurb of an existing piece of yours with a link back to the full piece, or something of your own that is previously published but you still have rights to. We might at times correct minor typos and grammatical errors. But we like the voice of the author to shine through. So we try not to edit very much, if we can help it. However, as noted above, please do your best to adhere to the Yahoo! Style Guide.

Also, be sure to include with each post you a 3-5 sentence blurb at the end of each post to tell readers who you are and what you do. If desired, you may also include a photo of yourself to go with the blurb. Guest Bloggers can attach it to the Guest Submission. Approved Bloggers will be allowed to add this to the post themselves.

Example Author Blurb

She enjoys publishing freelance writers and supports advocacy through journalism. She has been published all over the web with major media companies, as well as smaller businesses and organizations. Earning Ad Revenue

If you have an account with Amazon Affiliates, include with each post the code for a banner or widget, so that you may earn some ad revenue on your posts with us. We accept any size banner, except the large leaderboard. Your submission will be worked around the banner for optimal display results. Visit the blog and article pages at Our Sites to help you decide which size may be right. We can make no claims as to the potential earnings, as they are managed by an outside party. However, since most posts will not be compensated in other ways, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.

Guest Bloggers must submit this code at the time of submission. Approved Bloggers must enter this code themselves into each of their posts. Approved Bloggers also have the option of including additional affiliate links and banners from third parties other than Amazon with prior approval through our Contact Us form. Approved Bloggers will gain access to the current relevant blog pages in their categories and be able to enter the codes into each individual post themselves.

Further Compensation

Most posts will be eligible for ad revenue compensation, which is only available to those who provide the proper ad code. Ad revenue is managed by an outside party and is the sole responsibility of each individual writer. Due to this revenue being managed by an outside party, we can make no claims as to the potential earnings. However, from time to time, we do have freelance opportunities to become a contributing writer for those with exceptional quality as needs permit. Those opportunities are very limited and will be posted on the Gigs With Us page when they are available. Gigs with other parties are posted as a friendly convenience on the Other Gigs page.

Hyperlinks

We welcome and encourage hyperlinks to your other work, as long as there is value to the post and links are sensibly placed. Spam will not be tolerated. For instance, a how-to piece (or partial post to lead into one) is fine. Linking to related material is also acceptable. But just talking about how great your website is will not be of value to readers and will not be published. You are limited to three source links per post, three non-source links per post, one link per byline, and three links per author blurb.
